Purpose of the Institute

The Society for the Welfare of the Differently abled persons (Divyang).Education and Research Centre is the first institution founded in 1956, with an aim to rehabilitate the orthopaedically challenged children, The institute is unique and is the only organization of its kind in India. Late Shri. Morarjibhai Desai, then the Chief Minister of Maharashtra donated 3.5 Acres of land to this institute to flourish. Today, with its credentials, the institute strives to become a centre of excellence and base for Orthopaedically challenged children the age group of 6 to 18 years. A separate building for pre vocational programme, library, a small clinic as well as auditorium etc.are future plans of the society.

Educational Programs

All Children at SWD&MRC are given educational and skill Development (prevocational training) so as to build their confidence and make them self-sufficient citizens in future. Primary & Secondary schooling upto IX Std. is available within the campus & rest of the students are sent to a normal school H.B.Girme Vidyalaya in the vicinity, up to Xlth standard and higher studies also.The boarding facility is available within campus for needy & genuine beneficiary.

Things of Beauty made by our Inmates

The Society encourages children to learn various types of handicrafts. They also learn skills like making of Ceramic Painting, Soft Toys, etc.Thus they make a variety of beautiful articles, which not only provides them with livelihood but also gives them creative satisfaction. The Society exhibits and sells these articles at a very low cost.

Accommodation & Catering

The Society offers hostel accommodation in the campus, with total 250 bunk beds available in 5 dormitories.There are 2 separate wings for girls and boys with the capacities of 115 & 135, Visitors are restricted to enter the boys/girls wing without prior permission of hostel matron/warden.
Being a parental institution for the divyang, caring for their education, medical & surgical aid, special attention is provided. The institute provide food which includes tea, breakfast and two meals a day absolutely free of cost

Life with plenitude

Our rich cultural values are imbibed in these children by celebrating national and social festivals including “The World Divyang Day” The institution conducts various sports and personality development activities which transform these divyang children into self-respected citizens. Thus working with an aim for rehabilitation of the disabled and restoration of their dignity SWD&MRC becomes a complete and caring home for these children

Application & Admission

Advertisements are published in leading newspapers in the month of February every year & Application forms are distributed up to the end of April. All application forms are scrutinized and then on the advice of the admission committee, admissions are finalised.

Medical Facilities

During the year under reference 39 inmates were operated to overcome their physical disabilities at different hospitals under the care of our Vice Chairman Dr. Satish Jain at Sharada Clinic. Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy is provided under the guidance of Dr. Jain After operation asper requirement. These operated children are provided with post-operative treatment by our, occupational therapist as per their disability. Medical check-up is one of the main regular feature of our institution which is carried out by the following honorary doctors. A number of surgeries for disabled hands were also carried out during the year by Dr. Narayan Karne at Karne Hospital. Our medical panel consists of;Dr.Pravin Bhosale, Dr.B.K.Munshi, Dr.S.Munshi
The Institute SWD&MRC provides medical facilities like Ayurvedic, Allopathic and Home- opathy for I.PD. as well as O.PD to inmates (day school students) for betterment of students healthand to overcome & subside the disability. Hence inmates should transform themselves into self-independent, selfmotivated & self-confident, self-Reliant.
For improvement of cognitive behaviour, keep inmates busy in various Creative activities like pegboard & indoor education games.

Help and Self Help

The rehabilitation of the physically challenged children is a moral obligation of society. SWD&MRC have demonstrated that with proper training & opportunities these children overcome their difficulties, with timely help and positive outlook towards life, they can overcome their disabilities and prove themselves to be very capable and efficient citizens. It is to mention here that all of us can play a positive role.SWD&MRC needs your help.Individuals, Institutions, Associations and organizations like you can help in many ways through donations in cash/cheque and kind.
